A.I. has become a hot topic in recent months, and things are only getting crazier. We’ve heard of some very established Author’s and Industry veterans fully endorsing the use of AI to generate novels. Just considering the ripple-effects of this being done at a large scale is… frightening.
Using A.I. as a tool to aid with the process of writing is exciting. It’s the future. Having it aid in self-editing (prior to reaching a professional editor), research, etc. can help writers get the words out of their heads faster in a similar fashion to how the computer made it easier than a typewriter.
Using A.I. to pump out content and books in order to release them rapidly and flood markets to make a buck, is an affront on ALL authors.
Will it harm experienced authors with active, existing fanbases? Probably only a little. Though it is certainly behind the recent drop in the KENP rate that has become big news this month.
Will it make it nearly impossible for newer authors (which all authors have been before) to sell and find their own fans/voices? Absolutely.
The more experienced authors and industry people who endorse using A.I. like this, the more it hurts us all in every phase of the industry, from publishers, to agents, to authors.
Aethon Books stands against it. Our contracts will begin to reflect that stance. ALL other publishers should be against it. Amazon Kindle, Kobo, Barnes & Nobel and all other retailers should be against it. We invite them to take a public stand with us.
